Return from Spring break

After being gone for a week (travelled to Myrtle Beach with the Southside Varsity Softball team) I jumped right back into the swing of things.

On Monday I was in 7th grade music class teaching Audacity to the students (using the Promethean Board to demo). Audacity is a free download :) The students will be using laptops to record an interview between themselves and their partner. They will be putting music in the background of their interview, altering the amplification so that the music doesn't overpower their interview, and fading it out at the end. (Tuesday- same)

Also on Monday and Tuesday I was in the 6th grade music classes working on the Rock and Roll Flipchart Project. On Monday and Tuesday, I demonstrated for the stduents how to map to the student shared drive, take their folder I made for them and move it to their personal space (H). I also showed them how to turn an object into an ACTION object so that when you click on it, it links to a website.

Today and tomorrow I'll be giving them some more tips. I plan to show them how to group objects, and pull shapes from the resource library.

Also, I am in the process of connecting with teachers, getting a time to meet with them to discuss tech goals for next year!

Catching up!

Today I am making updates on my dreamweaver site (www.gstboces.org/iss/batrowny). I put some flipcharts on there to share, as well as directions for teachers.

I emailed teachers in Watkins Glen that I haven't spoken with in a while. Sometimes that is when they remember to ask me a question, when they see an email from me. I also sent one yesterday to all of the promethean board users saying that if they wanted me to check where their flipcharts are saved i'd help them to make sure they don't lose anything when the computers are reimaged. I received many responses from them.

Also, I am in the process of making a Distance learning contact with a teacher in Arequipa, Peru. The other day at the Empire State Video Conferencing Collaboration (ESVCC, http://esvcc.pbwiki.com) we connected with my friend Martin in Lima, Peru via Skype. One of the teachers involved with the connection was in Torfaen, Wales. She is interested in making a connection with Peru. I emailed the person in charge of technology in the school where my friend teaches.

As a direct result of the ESVCC, we are going to do a connection with the National Football Hall of Fame for Career Day at Watkins Glen Middle School in May.

first mobile blog post

first mobile blog post!
YAY it works! :)

Rock and Roll Project

Last week in I made a WIKI for a student projecton ToolboxPRO.
View the wiki: www.toolboxpro.org/wikis
On it:
  • the students can pick their topic choice, (Google Docs- forms) and their teacher gets a spreadsheet of their choices. I added all of the choices in as a drop-down menu. The students were able to choose their top five bands.
  • they have links to directions on the project
  • they can chat live with the teacher

The Project- each student will make a FLIPCHART page on a certain influential band. They will record their voices, save images and videos, include text and interactivity on their page.

For two days (2 class periods each) I gave the students a demo of the WIKI page and some features of the Flipchart page on ActivStudio.
